Thailand and Netherlands were added to the MRF Tyres ICC Women's ODI Team Rankings after a four-match series in Chiang Mai that Thailand went on to win.

Thailand completed a 4-0 ODI series victory over Netherlands as the two teams made the ICC Women's ODI Team Rankings for the very first time.

The 4-0 victory meant that Thailand jumped straight to the eighth spot, leapfrogging Pakistan. Netherlands, meanwhile, entered the rankings on the 12th spot, but still have 0 rating points.

Thailand celebrate WCWC qualifier win over Zimbabwe

The series began with a crushing win for Thailand on their ODI debut. A century from Nattakan Chantham gave them 243/9 in 50 overs with no other batter making 25 runs or more.

Onnicha Kamchomphu snared three wickets while Suleeporn Laomi and Thipatcha Putthawong took two each to bowl Netherlands out for 134. With the match reduced to 46 overs in the second innings owing to rain, Thailand completed a 100-run victory by DLS method.

For Thailand, star batter Natthakan Chantham scored the highest 267 runs from four innings and spinner Suleeporn Laomi took 10 wickets in the ODI series. Netherlands players struggled for consistency but young pacer Iris Zwilling was impressive with ten wickets. WWE Royal Rumble 2023 Is Already A Record-Breaker

WWE Royal Rumble 2023 Is Already A Record-Breaker

We're still two months out but Royal Rumble 2023 is already doing numbers for WWE.

Royal Rumble 2023 has already smashed the brand's record gate.

Fightful Select reports that the event's gate has now passed the $5 million mark. This makes it the highest-grossing Royal Rumble event ever, surpassing 2017's previous record.

The gap between those two shows should keep growing between now and Saturday, 28 January, when WWE's signature over-the-top-rope battle royal hits San Antonio, Texas. Tickets are still available for general sale for what is currently set to be the promotion's first premium live event of 2023.

Royal Rumble 2023, like 2017, takes place in the Alamodome - a stadium that can be calibrated to hold up to 60,000 fans for professional wrestling. WWE announced an attendance of 52,020 for 2017. By WrestleTix's last estimate, the company had shifted 30,361 of the 33,874 tickets made available for 2023, meaning the higher gate is likely down to increased ticket prices for next year's show.

Survivor Series WarGames

witnessed a brutal "war" in the main event, with The Bloodline once again standing tall at the end. It was Sami Zayn who once and for all proved his loyalty to The Bloodline by turning on his best friend Kevin Owens and helping his team win the WarGames match.

According to WrestlingNews.co, the current plans for next year's Royal Rumble are for Roman Reigns to defend his Undisputed Championship against Kevin Owens. The report further notes that Sheamus was also planned for this spot, but the company decided to go ahead with The Prizefighter.

It should be noted that during the WarGames match, at one point, KO hit the Stunner on Reigns and had him down for a 3-count. However, Sami Zayn held the referee's hand and stopped him from counting the pinfall.

Lionel Messi

Lionel Andrés Messi[note 1] (Spanish pronunciation: [ljoˈnel anˈdɾes ˈmesi] (listen); born 24 June 1987), also known as Leo Messi, is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a forward for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and captains the Argentina national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Messi has won a record seven Ballon d'Or awards,[note 2] a record six European Golden Shoes, and in 2020 was named to the Ballon d'Or Dream Team. Until leaving the club in 2021, he had spent his entire professional career with Barcelona, where he won a club-record 35 trophies, including ten La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey titles and four UEFA Champions Leagues. A prolific goalscorer and creative playmaker, Messi holds the records for most goals in La Liga (474), most goals in a La Liga and European league season (50), most hat-tricks in La Liga (36) and the UEFA Champions League (8), and most assists in La Liga (192), a La Liga season (21) and the Copa América (17). He also holds the record for most international goals by a South American male (92). Messi has scored over 785 senior career goals for club and country, and has the most goals by a player for a single club (672).

Born and raised in central Argentina, Messi relocated to Spain to join Barcelona at the age of 13, for whom he made his competitive debut aged 17 in October 2004. He established himself as an integral player for the club within the next three years, and in his first uninterrupted season in 2008–09 he helped Barcelona achieve the first treble in Spanish football; that year, aged 22, Messi won his first Ballon d'Or. Three successful seasons followed, with Messi winning four consecutive Ballons d'Or, making him the first player to win the award four times and in a row.[10] During the 2011–12 season, he set the La Liga and European records for most goals scored in a single season, while establishing himself as Barcelona's all-time top scorer. The following two seasons, Messi finished second for the Ballon d'Or behind Cristiano Ronaldo (his perceived career rival), before regaining his best form during the 2014–15 campaign, becoming the all-time top scorer in La Liga and leading Barcelona to a historic second treble, after which he was awarded a fifth Ballon d'Or in 2015. Messi assumed captaincy of Barcelona in 2018, and in 2019 he won a record sixth Ballon d'Or. Out of contract, he signed for Paris Saint-Germain in August 2021.
An Argentine international, Messi holds the national record for appearances and is also the country's all-time leading goalscorer. At youth level, he won the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship, finishing the tournament with both the Golden Ball and Golden Shoe, and an Olympic gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. His style of play as a diminutive, left-footed dribbler drew comparisons with his compatriot Diego Maradona, who described Messi as his successor. After his senior debut in August 2005, Messi became the youngest Argentine to play and score in a FIFA World Cup in 2006, and reached the final of the 2007 Copa América, where he was named young player of the tournament. As the squad's captain from August 2011, he led Argentina to three consecutive finals: the 2014 FIFA World Cup, for which he won the Golden Ball, and the 2015 and 2016 Copa América, winning the Golden Ball in the 2015 edition. After announcing his international retirement in 2016, he reversed his decision and led his country to qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, a third-place finish at the 2019 Copa América, and won the 2021 Copa América, while winning the Golden Ball and Golden Boot award for the latter. This achievement would see him receive a record seventh Ballon d'Or in 2021.
Messi has endorsed sportswear company Adidas since 2006. According to France Football, he was the world's highest-paid footballer for five years out of six between 2009 and 2014, and was ranked the world's highest-paid athlete by Forbes in 2019 and 2022.[11] Messi was among Time's 100 most influential people in the world in 2011 and 2012. In February 2020, he was awarded the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, thus becoming the first footballer and the first team sport athlete to win the award. Later that year, Messi became the second footballer (and second team-sport athlete) to surpass $1 billion in career earnings

Argentina national football team

The Argentina national football team (Spanish: Selección de fútbol de Argentina) represents Argentina in men's international football and is administered by the Argentine Football Association, the governing body for football in Argentina.

La Selección (National Team), also known as La Albiceleste, has appeared in five World Cup finals, including the first final in 1930, which they lost 4–2 to Uruguay. Argentina won in their next final appearance in 1978, beating the Netherlands 3–1 at extra time. Argentina won again in 1986 with a 3–2 victory over West Germany, and a tournament campaign inspired by their captain Diego Maradona. They made the World Cup finals once more in 1990, and lost 1–0 to West Germany through an 87th minute penalty converted by Andreas Brehme. Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, made their fifth appearance in a World Cup final in 2014, again losing to Germany 1–0 during extra-time. The team's World Cup-winning managers are César Luis Menotti in 1978 and Carlos Bilardo in 1986.

Argentina has also been very successful in the Copa América, winning it 15 times, most recently led by Lionel Messi in 2021, and are currently tied with Uruguay in most wins. The team also won the 1992 FIFA Confederations Cup. Argentina is the most successful team in the CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions, having won it twice (1993 and 2022). Argentina is known for having rivalries with BrazilUruguayEngland, and Germany.[13][14]

History[edit]

The first match ever recorded for Argentina was against Uruguayon 20 June 1902.[note 2] The game (which was the first international for both sides) was held in Montevideo and Argentina won 6–0.[3][6] During the first years of its existence, the Argentina national team only played friendly matches against other South American teams. The reasons for this varied, including long travel times between countries and the interruption of World War I.[16]

La Selección (national team), also known as the Albicelestes (sky blue and whites), has appeared in five World Cup finals, including the first final in 1930, which they lost, 4–2, to Uruguay. Argentina won in their next final in 1978, beating the Netherlands, 3–1. Argentina, led by Diego Maradona won again in 1986, a 3–2 victory over West Germany. Argentina last reached the World Cup final in 2014, where it lost 1–0 to the Germany. Previous to this their last World Cup final was in 1990, which is also lost, 1–0, to West Germany by a much-disputed penalty. Argentina's World Cup-winning managers are César Luis Menotti in 1978, and Carlos Bilardo in 1986.

Argentina has been very successful in the Copa América, winning it 15 times. The team also won the FIFA Confederations Cup and the Kirin Cup, both in 1992, the CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions in 1993 and 2022, and the Nations' Cup in 1964. Argentina 'Olympic' team (with only three players of over 23 years of age included in the squad) won the Olympics football tournaments in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.[17]

Argentina also won seven of the 18 football competitions at the Pan American Games, winning in 195119551959197119952003 and 2019.

In March 2007, Argentina reached the top of the FIFA World Rankings for the first time.[18]

Home stadium[edit]

Estadio Monumental, frequent venue of Argentina

Argentina play most of their home matches at River Plate stadium, Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti,[19][20] although the team has also played in other venues such as Rosario Central,[21] (during the 2010 World Cup qualification)[22][23] Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero,[24][25] Boca Juniors' stadium (La Bombonera)[25] Those venues were used in some matches of the 2022 World Cup qualification,[26] along with Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes in Córdoba and Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario in the homonymous province.[27]

GEBA Stadium was the venue where Argentina played their first international matches as local team. The match held on 13 September 1908, for the Copa Newton v. Uruguay has a historic relevance for being the first time Argentine wore the light blue and white striped jersey, which would be the definitive uniform up to present days.[28] GEBA was also venue for the Copa Centenario Revolución de Mayo, the first international South American competition organised in 1910. The Argentina national team played its last game at GEBA on 19 October 1919, when the squad won the Copa Premier Honor Argentino after thrashing Uruguay by 6–1,[29]

Other memorable venue for Argentina was Estadio Sportivo Barracas, which holds an important anecdotal fact in its history on 2 October 1924, when Argentina beat Uruguay 2–1 with a goal converted directly from a corner kick by forward Cesáreo Onzari. Since then, a goal like Onzari's is referred as a Gol olímpico or Olympic goal.[30] Sportivo Barracas was the usual venue for Argentina from 1920 to 1932. The stadium would be later demolished in 1937.
